25. Shakuntala Devi

Director: Anu Menon
Language: Hindi
Stars: Vidya Balan, Sanya Malhotra, Jisshu sengupta, Amit Sadh

The extraordinary story of Shakuntala Devi, the world-renowned mathematician who lived her life on her own terms. While the film pays tribute to her genius as a mathematician, it also humanizes her as a woman and mother, in trying to capture her indomitable spirit. This biopic on Shakuntala Devi is notable for its tour de force of a performance by an elegant and energetic Vidya Balan and the general description of her life and times. Watch it for numerical fun and the distant personality of Shakuntala putting light on the same aspect. This movie is streaming on Amazon Prime

24. Gulabo Sitabo

Gulabo Sitabo bitchingfilms

Director: Shoojit Sircar
Language: Hindi
Stars: Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Raaz

Inspired by Allahabad’s famous traditional Puppet show: Gulabo & Sitabo the film not only bears the same name, but also the same characteristics of Gulabo and Sitabo, as well as their argumentative relationship. Well, the film might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but believe me, when you see it through a cynical prism, you’ll know how true and bitter it is, revealing human nature and explaining the absurdity of human partnerships taking advantage of each other’s circumstance. A very heartwarming story yet a political satire executed in a much much monotonous manner. This movie is streaming on Amazon Prime.

23. Chhalaang

Chhalaang bitchingfilms
Director: Hansal Mehta
Language: Hindi
Stars: Rajkummar Rao, Nushrat Bharucha, Zeeshan Ayyub

After the outstanding web series Scam 1992, director Hansal Mehta delivered another entertaining movie. But this time he switches to a light-hearted zone. Chhalaang is the funny yet inspiring journey of Montu, a PT Master from a semi-government-funded school for whom teaching PT is just a career. When circumstances place everything he cares for in jeopardy, including Neelu, whom he loves, Montu is compelled to do something he’s never done before: TEACH. In his trip, the film humorously explores the importance of Sports Education in school curricula. It’s not that this story hasn’t been told before, but what distinguishes Chhalaang is first and foremost the direction of Hansal Mehta, who is taking on such a project after a long time, and secondarily Rajkumar Rao’s flawless acting abilities. If you want to spend a lazy afternoon laughing, chhalaang is a fine option. This movie is streaming on Amazon Prime.

22. Maara

maara bitchingfilms

This movie perfectly depicts the stories of some relationships which don’t have any name. Frame by Frame fantastically artworked. Eye-catching Visuals. Language: Hindi
Stars: Fatima Shaikh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Nushrat Bharucha, Abhishek Banerjee, Konkana Sen, Aditi Rao, Shefali Shah, Manav Kaul

Ajeeb Daastaans portrays stories of lust, lost love, revenge, and confusion in a subtle and realistic manner. Four shorts explore the surprising ways in which unexpected catalysts inflame the uncomfortable emotions simmering under fractured relationships. This movie is streaming on Netflix India

20. Serious Men

serious men bitchingfilms
Director: Sudhir Mishra
Language: Hindi
Stars: Nawazuddin SiddiquiNassarAakshath Das

Serious Men revolves around a common man named Mani essayed by Nawaz who wants to give every possible thing which he didn’t get as a child to his only son, Adi portrayed by child actor Akshath Das. Nawaz plays that father who defies all odds to give his son the best opportunities and a life full of privilege.  It is a satire on the Indian education system and casteism that touches on every part of Indian society. The first half is fantastic, with some funny and witty moments sprinkled in. The storyline is new and has never been seen before in Bollywood, which works in its favour. The 2nd half on the other hand is a bit dragged and feels unexciting, but stick to it as the climax and the finale is the biggest USP of the film. I absolutely loved it. This movie is streaming on Netflix India.

19. Khuda Haafiz

Khuda Haafiz Bitchingfilms

Director: Faruk Kabir
Language: Hindi
Stars: Vidyut Jammwal, Shivaleeka Oberoi, Annu Kapoor

A newly married couple’s life falls in jeopardy when the wife goes missing under mysterious circumstances. The name Vidyut Jamwal has become a synonym with action. Vidyut Jammwal underplays himself without losing any of the action we expect from him in this serious, grounded, emotional action thriller. I have to admit that this is the best Bollywood action film in a long time, because it is both action-packed and fast-paced, and it doesn’t hold back in terms of gore. Khuda Haafiz is a total entertainer. It builds up to a serious real-life event, then offers unabashed fun as it instantly cuts to the chase, with Sameer (Vidyut Jammwal) searching for his lost wife and… you know what he’s best at, right? This movie is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar

18. Vakeel Saab

vakeel saab bitchingfilms

Director: Venu Sriram
Language: Telgu
Stars: Pawan KalyanNivetha ThomasAnjali, Ananya

Despite some shortcomings, Vakeel Saab is a decent film thanks to Pawan Kalyan’s mass appeal and the director’s larger-than-life vision. Vakeel Saab’s take of the National Award-Winning Bollywood Film Pink is out and out massy. The music is decent, dialogues are fine, action scenes are enjoyable and Venu Sriram’s direction is quite impressive as it should be for any massy film. Overall, Vakeel Saab drags a little but then survives and that’s important. This movie is streaming on Amazon Prime.

As all circumstantial evidence points towards the young bride, our cop is hell-bent on opening Pandora’s box and digs into an old unresolved case putting him at risk. The Thriller portion is very engaging. The whole Cinema has a Dark Tone which was awesome. Cinematography is also superb. It is the first feature film of the director as a debutant his direction is also very good. A brilliant narrative, effective cinematography and a brilliant performance from the Lead as well as the supporting cast make the movie an achievement in Mystery/suspense movie genres. 16. The White Tiger

the-white-tiger-bitchingfilms

Director: Ramim Bahrani
Language: Hindi
Stars: Adarsh GouravRajkummar Rao, Priyanka Chopra

Ramim Bahrani’s Oscar nominee ‘The White Tiger’ is an excellent, fun yet stunningly tragic, insight into the caste system in India. For anyone never having visited India, would think this complete fantasy. Yet. It is incredibly real. India is an extraordinary chasm between the haves and the have nots. Don’t be misled into believing it’s just about money or poverty. It’s a choice between being a human and being a slave. The lives of the vast majority of Indians are doomed to be less than human. Slaves, to put it bluntly. Adash Gourav gives a wonderful performance as a lovely villager. A show to remember. This movie is streaming on Netflix India.

15. AK vs AK

Director: Vikramaditya Motwane
Language: Hindi
Stars: Anil KapoorAnurag KashyapSonam Kapoor

A filmmaker kidnaps the daughter of a movie star, and while the star searches for his daughter the director films the desperate search in real-time for his next blockbuster movie. It’s such a refreshing change in Indian cinema. Thanks to AK Jr & Vikram for planning and making this movie. AK vs AK had a very interesting concept and whilst its execution isn’t completely perfect, I was still pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. This movie is streaming on Netflix India.

14. Pagglait

pagglait-bitchingfilms

Director: Umesh Bist
Language: Hindi
Stars: Sanya Malhotra, Sayani Gupta

Pagglait as the name suggests it’s a quirky movie with feminism as its central theme. Satire on society with a tinge of hypocrisy, the story revolves around a young girl who became a widow just within 5 months of her arranged marriage. However, she is unable to feel the pain due to the dearth of attachment for his beloved whereas her family is of the view that she is not able to bear the loss and has gone frenzy and this is the reason she is behaving so. Pagglait is one of those simple little charmers that will appeal to you if you’re looking for a light-hearted timepiece. There isn’t much in the way of storyline or character growth, but the film’s slow pacing and the lasting cast of fine actors, led by a strong lead performance, will keep you entertained for the duration. It’s sincere and relatable because it doesn’t put on a show and only says what it has to say. This movie is streaming on Netflix India.

13. Kaagaz

kagaaz-bitchingfilms
Director: Satish Kaushik
Language: Hindi
Stars:  Pankaj TripathiMonal GajjarSatish Kaushik

A satirical comedy about a common man and the struggle he goes through to prove his existence after being falsely being declared dead on government records. It’s completely a Pankaj Tripathi show, I can’t think of anyone portraying this character except Pankaj Tripathi. The chemistry of Monal Gajjar with Pankaj is delightful to watch. You should definitely watch the film for this interesting yet inspiring true story and of course for The Legend Pankaj Tripathi. The movie is streaming on Zee5

Director: Bejoy Nambiar
Language: Hindi

A story of friendship and loss of innocence when two worlds clash amid a wedding when a secret exposes a betrayal, and innocent friends converge with dangerous criminals and intense violence. Taish is explosive as the title suggests. Action more than two decades ago spirals into an uncontrollable series of violent events that touches everyone, ending in disastrous consequences especially for the innocent lives who wake up to the unknown reality about the people they love. It’s a violent saga of vengeance amid brotherhood and friendship, love and loss. This movie is streaming on Zee5

11. Ludo

Ludo-bitchingfilms

Four wildly disparate stories collide at the whims of destiny, chance, and one quirky suspect, ranging from a resurfaced sex tape to a rogue suitcase of gold. These misfits, miscreants, lovers, and losers are now all unwitting pawns in this erratic game. Is this the only way home? Continue to play. After proving his mettle in the brilliant comedy-drama Barfi and magical musical drama Jagga Jasoos, Anurag Basu now ventures into the rarely attempted genre of black comedy in Indian cinema and nails it completely. This is an amazing and must watch movie Very gripping with many twists and turns. One of the best dark films in the list of ‘Best Indian movies released post lockdown’. 10. Andhaghaaram

Director: V Vignaranjan
Language: Tamil
Stars: Vinoth Kishan, Arjun Das, Pooja

Here we are on the countdown of the top 10 ‘Best Indian movies released post lockdown’ and what would be better than a horror mystery thriller. The search for a life of a blind conjurer, a washed-up cricketer, and a desolate doctor lead them into a maze of obscurity, where their lives are entangled in a web of deception, dismay, and darkness. A brilliant, riveting supernatural, part psychological thriller that combines many genres into a single film that pays off in the end. Disguised as a “Supernatural” film, this is really a revenge thriller with quick and quick character changes towards the end. The film blurs the lines between fact and fantasy to produce a psychological shock, and it will one day be given the credit it deserves. Anyone who loves suspense and supernatural horror will be in good hands in this film. This movie is streaming on Netflix India.

9. CU Soon

Director: Mahesh Narayan

9th in the list of Best Indian movies released post lockdown is a mystery thriller made in the most unique way. A software engineer, living in Kerala, is prompted by his family to look for his cousin’s missing fiancee. As they stumble upon her video-based suicide note, he races against time to find her. C u soon has a good story, gripping screenplay, superb performances from the 3 leads and brilliant virtual cinematography. C U Soon would a very satisfying watch for audiences of all ages. 8. Lootcase

Director: Rajesh Krishnan
Language: Hindi
Stars: Kunal Khemu, Rasika Dugal, Vijay Raaz, Ranvir Shorey, Gajraj Rao

Lootcase is easily the best comedy movie released in this pandemic. Nandan Kumar comes across a suitcase and discovers it is full of cash. He takes the suitcase and soon finds himself being chased by a notorious gangster, an honest cop and a minister, who want the suitcase at any cost. After a long time, I would say a comedy genre movie has arrived which has no double meaning or vulgar comedy scenes but the situation and performance will make you laugh harder. It’s a movie which can join the list of Hera Pheri, Phir Hera Pheri, Dhamaal, Hungama, Dhol, Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiya, Bhagam Bhag etc. it’s a must-watch family entertainer which has the pure ingredients of entertainment. This movie is streaming on Hotstar

7. Joji

Director: Dileesh Pothan
Language: Malayalam
Stars: Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, Unnimaya, Basil Joseph

Joji, an engineering dropout and the youngest son of the rich plantation family lives with his aspirations of becoming a super-wealthy NRI. But his father looks down on him as a proper loser. Driven by greed and blind ambition, Joji finally decides to execute his plans following an unexpected event in the family. Will he succeed in achieving his dreams? This film is firstly a treat to the eye. This level of film making I’ve seen only in Malayalam films. Yes, the cinematography is breathtaking, showing the lush green landscapes of Kerala and the camerawork and all, but the acting is what stands out for me. Fahadh Faasil, like what can be said that hasn’t already been said about this guy? This guy is a joy to look at. The BGM is tense and adds gravitas to the scenes. Splendid job, Joji team. Loved it. An intense slow burner thriller, now streaming on Prime Video.

6. Ram Singh Charlie

Director: Nitin Kakkar
Language: Hindi
Stars: Kumud Mishra, Divya Dutta, Salima Raza

In a circus, Ram Singh used to play Charlie. But when the circus’s owners decided to close it down, Ram Singh had no choice but to start running rickshaws for a living. But then one day, his wife suggests that he restart the circus. Accepting his wife’s advice, he sets out to restart the circus. But then the unexpected happens that his dream remains incomplete. No matter however hard we try, sometimes things never materialise the way we desire, Ram Singh Charlie is one such beauty. Only the father denies his own need for a boy. A father is still a Joker; whatever life forces him to do, he will do solely for the sake of his kids. This film is really well written, and it is not at all like a traditional Bollywood film. All of the actors have delivered outstanding performances. Available on Sony Liv.

5. Pareeksha
Director: Prakash Jha
Language: Hindi
Stars: Adil Hussain, Priyanka Bose, Shourya Deep

Inspired by real-life events, this ZEE5 Original film revolves around an ordinary rickshaw puller in Bihar struggling to give his son the best possible education. Quite simplistic in approach, Pareeksha subtly explores the class divide as well as the political rot plaguing the education system. Jha invests considerable time to highlight how the IB schools restrict themselves to rich students only and even the RTE act is sometimes not followed in spirit. Adil Hussain is simply outstanding in the lead role. Priyanka Bose playing his wife and newcomer Shubham as the son are also fantastic. Particularly, Shubham’s climactic monologue stays with you long after the movie is over. Sanjay Suri is a pleasure to watch in his small role. The movie is brilliantly written depicting true facts about the education system and conveying the right message to everyone. This movie is available on Zee5.

4. Soorarai Pottru

Director: Sudha Kongara
Language: Tamil
Stars: Suriya, Paresh Rawal, Aparna, Urvashi

The film tells the storey of Nedumaaran Rajangam, better known by his friends as Maara, the son of a teacher, who sets out to make the common man soar by taking on the world’s most capital intensive industry with the aid of his friends, family, and sheer willpower. The struggle level in this film is on such a hectic level that one might have given up long ago but this man was blessed to have a highly supporting wife, mother, friends and his own troops who stood with him against powerful enemies. Every character in the film is beautifully written with detailing to the core and easily connectable nature whether it is positive or negative. Suriya in the lead role is unstoppable right from the first scene. His different looks, different reactions, different situations and different expressions could be felt as if he was living the character in reality. Finest Biography and great motivational content. This movie is available on Prime Video

3. Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi

Director: Seema Bhargava
Language: Hindi
Stars: Manoj Pahwa, Deepika Amin, Ninad Kamat, Vinay Pathak

The movie begins with Ram Prasad’s death, the Bauji of the family. The entire family gathers under one roof to perform the final rites of the head of the family. For the next thirteen days, they are stuck with each other and in this journey, the family faces its issues, insecurities, greed, hopelessness, and much more. There are no villains here. Just the understanding that humans are flawed, relationships are fragile, and yet, we must strive, as best as we can, to be happy. Ram Prasad ki Tehrvi is not a typical Bollywood fantasy film but is close to reality. The idea of the film is simple and subtle. Such films are not everyone’s cup of tea because of their slow pace. The film takes time to develop and reveal its characters. But it is highly recommended indeed! A special shout out to Seema Pahwa who is one such person whose career in the second half has taken off and how! Her writing is brilliant and on point. Kudos to her for bringing life into this film with her writing and direction who has made her way into a male-dominated industry. This movie is streaming on Netflix India

2. The Great Indian Kitchen

Director: Jeo Baby
Language: Malayalam
Stars: Nimisha Sajayan, Suraj Venjaramoodu

The film revolves around the story of a newly married woman who tries to be the ideal daughter-in-law and a wife and in that process how she loses her own identity, her individuality but at the end manages to break free from the chain of a patriarchal mindset. Women in this film are either shown to be victims of patriarchy or someone who supports patriarchy which is sad but at the same time, it’s the perfect reflection of our society. Patriarchy has become so normalized that we do not even realize that it has become an integral part of us knowingly or unknowingly. I would recommend everyone to watch this underrated gem of a movie. It will make your brain churn out of sheer frustration and suffocation and one might feel claustrophobic. But it is an important issue to be addressed and Joe Baby has done it with such beauty. A film that flaunts the hideous truth of patriarchy and misogyny in our daily lives. This movie is streaming on Amazon Prime.

1. Drishyam2

Director: Jeethu Joseph
Language: Malayalam
Stars: Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba, Esther Anil

Drishyam 2: The Resumption is a sequel to the 2013 Drishyam. A Malayalam language crime mystery film produced by Antony Perumbavoor. After six years, Drishyam 2 starts where we left Drishyam, but the never-ending probe hits once again to rock the family. All you get to see in the film is how the police figure out the unknown facts and how Georgekutty prepares a fresh script to rescue his family. Drishyam 2 has a script within a script, a movie within a movie. (Nolan would love to shake a hand with Jeethu Joseph). As said ‘a crime which is once done haunts forever”. The first half is a slow burner slow-paced drama that is emotionally powerful. Writing is brilliant, you will have a mind-boggling experience. Dialogues are decent so is the cinematography. The twists and turns would go on increasing and at one point you will doubt everyone, and starts making the guesses. We watched together as both families and not a single one managed to predict it right. Go with the highest expectation you have still this sequel will exceed your expectations. A Masterpiece.

Here I conclude by giving you 25 Reasons why not to step out of your home.
