A crime once done haunts forever

About: Drishyam 2

Drishyam 2: The Resumption is a sequel to the 2013 Drishyam. A Malayalam language crime mystery film produced by Antony Perumbavoor. The film was shot extensively in and around Thodupuzha(Kerala) in the same locations as Drishyam, and some scenes in Kochi. The entire filming was scheduled to last for 56 days and was completed in 46 days. The a,e house featured as GeorgeKutty and family’s residence in Drishyam was used as the location for Drishyam 2. The house was renovated to reflect GeorgeKutty’s present-day prosperity.

Plot:

After six years, Drishyam 2 starts where we left Drishyam, but the never-ending probe hits once again to rock the family. All you get to see in the film is how the police figure out the unknown facts and how Georgekutty prepares a fresh script to rescue his family. One of the biggest plus points of the storyline is a reference of Cinema withing a cinema or should I say Script within a Script because the ultimate goal of this narrative was nothing but to make visuals look deceptive.

Discussion:

The first part was released back seven years ago and still, the makers decided to continue the story. This shows how impactful Drishyam(2013) was. Jeethu Joseph and the team had a huge burden to carry on the legacy created by the first part and yes they did their job quite well! Drishyam(2013) was a landmark in Indian cinema, one of the greatest realistic crime mystery thrillers ever made and Drishyam2 is the perfect further development to the story. After finishing the movie you will have a feeling of complete satisfaction, you wouldn’t have asked more from the makers.

Drishyam 2 has a script within a script, a movie within a movie. (Nolan would love to shake a hand with Jeethu Joseph). Drishyam 2 begins after 6 years where we left Drishyam but the never-ending investigation strikes again to shake the family again. The first half and the second half of the film are completely different genres. While the early half focusses on the after-effects of the crime which occurred years ago. Georgekutty and his family have to face a lot of problems socially and mentally. As said ‘a crime which is once done haunts forever”. So the first half is a slow burner slow-paced drama that is emotionally powerful but some may complain about it to be boring and over-stretched (also some don’t have good cinema sense, uhh nvm).

Those complaining about the first half would go speechless wordless voiceless in the final hour. The writing is brilliant, you will have a mind-boggling experience. Dialogues are decent so is the cinematography. The twists and turns would go on increasing and at one point you will doubt everyone, and starts making the guesses. We watched together as both families and not a single one managed to predict it right. One thing was sure, was the acting department. We saw how brilliantly all the actors acted in the first part and they didn’t disappoint this time too. This movie is for all age groups. Astonishing writing Perfect sequel!!
